The Indonesian rupiah strengthened on Thursday morning to Rp 8,968-Rp 8,978 per US dollar, amid high capital inflows.
Stock broker firm Finan Corpindo Nusa president director Edwin Sinaga said Thursday that foreign traders tended to invest in Indonesia because of lingering global economic uncertainty.
“It is actually a surprise,” he said.
“The trend will continue into early next year as foreign traders will be more active in buying rupiah.”
Edwin reminded that Bank Indonesia would likely intervene soon to maintain the rupiah rate above Rp 9,000 per US dollar.
“But at the moment, BI is just following the market.”
