The President says he wants Indonesia’s annual gross domestic product growth rate to reach 8 within 10 years, up from an average of 6 percent in 2010.
At a Cabinet meeting to discuss Indonesia’s master economic plan on Thursday, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono also said he wanted Indonesia’s GDP to rise to US$1 trillion within 10 years.
The meeting is expected to run until 10 p.m., Thursday, and discuss specific growth targets by sector and thorough plans for the Greater Jakarta area.
“We’ve learned from our own country’s experience and the global crisis two years ago that market mechanism cannot settle problems. This is where the government can play a role. That’s why we will develop our master plan,” he said.
The Cabinet’s three coordinating ministers and all ministers with economy-related portfolios are taking part in the discussion at the Bogor State Palace in West Java.
