SBY calls for action on economic development

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on Monday that it was time for the government to act in order to accelerate economic development in Indonesia.

"We have to implement our plans. I can say [it is] time to act," Yudhoyono told 400 government officials and businesspeople attending a two-day meeting at the Bogor State Palace in West Java.

The meeting, which started on Monday, was scheduled to discuss the master plan for the acceleration of economic development in the country.

Besides related Cabinet ministers, the President also invited a number of businesspeople and organizations to take part in the meeting.

Yudhoyono said whether Indonesia's economic development plans would fail or succeed depended on the government's efforts.

"We still have many [development] bottlenecks such as permit and license issues, the lack of infrastructure and climate change. We must tackle the obstacles to support investment in the country," he said.
